This Is What Makes the World Go ‘Round

It’s not what you think Photo by Joshua Rawson-Harris on Unsplash Some say love makes the world go-’round — I beg to differ. Love is good. But in my humble opinion, gratitude makes the world a better place. A posture of gratitude breaks down barriers leaving the door open to love, kindness, understanding, peace, and joy. “When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out, and the tide of love rushes in.” — Kristin Armstrong What is Gratitude? According to The Harvard Medical School, “Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least...

Why Sleep Matters

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash I don’t sleep well. I’ll admit it. But I am not alone. Surprisingly, “The average person gets less than seven hours of sleep every night” and “50 to 70 million adults in the U.S. are affected by a sleep disorder.” 70 million Americans. This number is alarming. I thought everyone was sleeping well. Due to the mass-marketed sleep aides and natural sleep remedies — I thought people were snug in bed in REM sleep. But that isn’t the case. The numbers don’t lie. Sleep statistics show we have a problem — an epidemic. The CDC is calling insufficient sleep a public health epidemic, and the American Sleep Apnea Organization explains why: “Additionally, people are chronically sleep deprived as a result of demanding lifestyles and a lack of...

Take the Risk

What’s the best that can happen? Photo by Darius Bashar on Unsplash When we consider taking a risk, we usually ask ourselves, “what’s the worst that can happen?” What if we changed our perception? What if we trained our minds to consider the best possible outcome? *** Let’s Clear the Air This article is not about risky behaviors that cause harm to ourselves or others. Nor am I promoting engagement in these activities. I’m writing about taking calculated risks allowing growth and a more fulfilled life. The Cambridge Dictionary defines a calculated risk as, a risk that you consider is worth taking because the result, if it is successful will be very good. The Life You Live May Not Be the Life You Want

How to change a force-fed life and walk the path less traveled *** Photo by Zakaria Zayane on Unsplash “The greatest battle we face as human beings is the battle to protect our true selves from the self the world wants us to become.”- E. E. Cummings *** If you knew you could not fail, would you make different choices? Would you risk switching jobs? Would you risk leaving a relationship? Would you risk living authentically, doing what makes you happy? *** Society has a way of force-feeding our lives with social expectations that contradict our soul’s calling. And the only way to break free is to let go of all that is and welcome all that is new. You see, the...

Travel Solo and Increase Your Confidence

Photo by S Migaj on Unsplash Want to boost your confidence this year? Then travel solo. I did, and it changed my life. Traveling alone forced me to step out of my comfort zone, get to know myself better, and be self-reliant — ultimately increasing my confidence. How it Started One year I made a last-minute decision to visit Paris — solo. It was one of the best decisions in my life. I bought a ticket for the first train out of London St Pancras station to Paris. Hours later, I found myself meandering the streets of one of the world’s most romantic cities. I took advantage of the hop-on and hop-off bus, then floated along the River Seine, enjoying iconic landmarks and attractions. I...
